Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you based?
My home studio is based in Ōtorohanga. The address will be provided in your booking confirmation.
How old does my baby/child need to be?
You can have a casting done as soon or as late as you want. The earlier you have it done the tinier and the more wrinkles they have. Older babies (6 months to 18 months) can be more challenging to cast as they are busier and more aware of what’s happening.
Is the material you use safe for a newborn?
Yes, the alginate used for the moulding is made from seaweed and is very gentle and safe on delicate skin. It is also commonly used in dentistry for taking teeth impressions, which means it’s also safe in the mouth.
Does my baby need to be awake for the appointment?
No, it is perfectly ok if they are asleep. It can be done while they are asleep or awake.
What if my baby is too wriggly or moves a lot?
A little movement is completely fine and normal during the casting session. Wiggling actually helps the alginate get into all the nooks and crannies. However, sometimes with too much movement they can damage the mould. If this is the case, the mould is redone immediately or if babe is really not happy we can schedule a follow-up session.
Tip: Feeding your baby during the appointment is a helpful distraction. You are also more than welcome to bring along your partner or one family member, or one friend to join in on the fun – it’s often a team effort!
How can I prepare my baby/child for the appointment?
For a smoother casting experience, please dress them in clothing that is easy to remove and that you don’t mind if it gets a little messy. It’s not necessary but you could trim your little one’s nails.
Do you travel for appointments?
It depends on my availability. Please feel free to contact me to confirm my availability and for a quote.
Do you offer payment plans?
Absolutely!!!!! I never want finances to prevent anyone from having a casting done.
I provide a payment plan that spans over 4 weeks, consisting of 4 equal instalments. This option is available to all customers, but you can also opt to pay the full amount in one instalment. If you would like to explore other payment arrangements, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me before your scheduled appointment.
Do you offer weekend or late night appointments?
Yes, I do weekends and late nights.
When will my cast be ready?
The total completion time will vary for each individual casting. The timeframe is 6-12 weeks from the appointment to the finished piece/s being ready for collection.
The castings require 5-8 weeks of proper drying time. Once the appropriate drying time has been completed your castings will be prepared & painted and if framed then mounted into your chosen frame.
What will happen when my cast is ready?
Once your casting is ready and paid in full, I will contact you to either arrange pickup from the studio or arrange for Courier delivery in bubble wrap, labelled fragile at an additional cost. Please note we are not responsible for damages through Courier service negligence.
What if I need to change/cancel my appointment?
I understand that life can be unpredictable! So You can do this from the confirmation email you received after booking your appointment or contact me to change or cancel your appointment.
However, please note the booking fee is non-refundable.
